Please join us at Zar 2019 Winter Solstice! Zar, a ritual dance and music for praise and healing, is being held to celebrate the past year and to prepare for the coming year! The incredible world music of Meg York and Persian vocals of Sholeh Mani’s Sofi devotional singing will lead the way! Then, refreshments will be served afterwards.
Please wear comfortable clothing for freedom of movement. Bring musical instruments if you like, including drums and zills.
Meg York is known for her world music playing and productions including Tarab Retreat, www.tarabretreat.com, founding the Iranian Farabi Ensemble, and the Eastern European style party band, Klezmer Eyes. She is an Athena Project Artist in Residence, and joins Hal Aqua at Dazzle Jazz and the Mizel Museum/Mercury Cafe Denver KlezFest. Community outreach includes Denver Sister Cities and Denver Spring Institute events, playing immigrant music for Colorado Senate sessions, Yo Yo Ma’s 2018 Colorado Tour, and the Boulder Balkan Bash. “Music and dance build bridges from the past to the future by basking in the present.” www.megyork.com
Sholeh Mani was born and raised in Iran to a musical family before she moved to Sweeden then to Colorado, America. She has a Masters Degree in Art from University of Northern Colorado and teaches Art for Adams County public schools. Sholeh sings traditional art and folk songs of Iran as well as her own poems, and also plays Tonbak, the traditional goblet shaped Iranian drum. She performs with many Iranian and American musicians along the Front Range of Colorado. Sholeh is a featured vocalist on the Wadi Rum film soundtrack. She has performed at University of Northern Colorado, Fort Collins University, CU Boulder and is a featured performer at the Tarab Retreat every summer in Colorado Springs. She is preparing her poetry and short stories for publication.
